Grapevine Springs Pin

Grapevine Springs Pin
Size: 1 1/4 inches tall

Description: The pin shows one of the beautiful trees still providing shade at the site where Sam Houston camped, as well as his portrait super-imposed below its sheltering branches. The Grapevine Springs pin, commemorates Sam Houston’s Indian Peace Treaty camp of 1843.  In August of 1843, Sam Houston was to meet with Indian chiefs to sign a peace treaty; this meeting was also to keep the Indians from joining with Mexico to form an alliance against the new Republic.  While camping at Grapevine Springs for a month, he kept abreast of matters regarding annexation with Washington D C, and matters of support from England and France through Washington-on-the-Brazos.
