“Custodian, benefactors and to the Daughters of the Republic, it is an honor for five Paisley men of Scotland to be standing on the same soil as 189 patriots who defended this mission for 13 days in 1836 in the name of freedom and became heroes for their cause,” thus began the Proclamation to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. On June 23, the DRT President General, Karen R. Thompson, formally welcomed Bill Chadwick, the owner of the Alamo Bar in Paisley, Scotland, and bar regulars Peter Taylor, Laurence Roche, Frank Carroll, and Stuart Caldwell to The Alamo and the DRT Library.
