Chapter Scholarships

General Information:

The scholarship committee of Frances Cooke Van Zandt Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas awards a scholarship to deserving seniors graduating from an accredited public Texas high school.  This award is to help a student with his or her expenses at an accredited Texas college or university.

Qualifications:

The applicant must have a grade point average of at least 2.75.  No exceptions allowed.

Eligibility:
  1. Applicants must have graduated, or will graduate, from a public high school in Texas.
  2. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited Texas college or university.
Amount of Award:

The scholarship is an annual award of $500.00.  The money will be presented directly to the winner, who must enroll the following semester or forfeit the scholarship funds.

Deadlines:

The applications are available in November each year from the scholarship chairman and must be returned to her no later than February 1.  Please submit your application via email to the scholarship chairman at:

Application Procedures:

The following must be included in one mailing with no exceptions.

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Letter giving family history, educational objectives, explanation why the scholarship is desired.
  3. An official copy of the applicant’s last semester transcript and recent wallet sized photograph.
  4. Letters of recommendation from at least three people who know the applicant’s qualifications. These people should be teachers, employers, clergy, or family friends (but not family members).
